Making the Most of the Holiday Season
The holiday season is a blessed time—but it can also be busy and stressful. Between family gatherings, Christmas shopping, and sending cards, many business and nonprofit professionals are also working hard to finish the year strong. Nonprofits enter year-end giving season, while businesses push to wrap up projects before a new cycle begins.
That’s why I want to challenge you to pause and celebrate your accomplishments. We’re often so focused on what didn’t go as planned that we overlook the personal and organizational growth that did happen. Taking time to notice the positives doesn’t just benefit you as a leader—it encourages your team as well. A little recognition and appreciation can go a long way this time of year—sometimes even more than a Christmas bonus!
Even in a busy season, there are simple ways to reflect on success and express gratitude. Here are a few ideas:
Post a list of 5–10 achievements in a visible spot for everyone to see and celebrate.
Send short, sincere thank-you notes to staff, volunteers, partners, and vendors.
Create a photo reel of events, milestones, and activities from the year and share it with your team, customers, or volunteers.
Ask your team at a staff meeting what they’re most proud of this year and what they’re excited to achieve next year.
Set up a “Gratitude Wall” where people can add Post-it Notes highlighting moments, wins, or people they’re thankful for.
These small actions don’t take much time, but they can have a powerful impact on your team, your clients, and even your own sense of purpose.
As we move through this holiday season, let’s pause to appreciate all we have—and all we are becoming. I’m grateful for you, my supporters. You encourage me every day to do my best and be my best. What a blessing it is to have you in my life!
